Hello Tumblr,

Here is an INDIEGOGO CAMPAIGN I think you all should take a look at.

These books are LOVELY and hand-made in Vancouver and sometimes even HAND-DELIVERED to their vendors and I really, really like them and, WOW GREAT DEALS- like the following:

$25
Gift Pack w/ Brush Pen

For the cartoonist in your life, here’s an awesome gift pack: Two hardcover sketchbooks, two Student Edition/Manga Notebooks, and a brand new, sealed Daiso brush pen! Shipping to USA and Canada included!

(Those Daiso pens ARE great ;D)

ComicBlanks are sketchbooks with pre-printed comic panels! Designed for anybody planning a graphic novel or other visual art project, ComicBlanks sketchbooks are also perfect for comic jams and cartoon diaries.

The Indiegogo Campaign

We need to print a few hundred ComicBlanks sketchbooks to meet local retail demand for the Christmas season. If we print just enough to fill our current orders, we’ll break even. But if we increase our print run, we can produce the books at a much more cost-effective rate.

To significantly reduce our per-book costs, we need to spend an extra $2000 on this print run; we can currently meet $800 of this extra expense.

If we raise $1200, we’ll be able to not only lower our costs, but also acquire a modest inventory for future sales.

These sketchbooks make a great gift. If you live in Canada or the US, you can claim a perk in time for Christmas!

So you all should CHECK IT OUT!

Some things I’ve taught myself through out the years. I have not gone to college for art or comics, these are things I’ve learned by just trying to make comics by myself.

I’ve also learned this stuff on the fly, through reading and doing. Regarding that last one: you can also use other elements to guide the reader’s eye through the page - shapes of objects, perspective on elements that “zoom” from top to bottom or right to left, etc.
I love how resources that pertain to what I’m currently working on just pop up on my dashboard.
It’s meant to be.

someting for a friend

i just want to say, for people reblogging this, that this is called the “rule of thirds” and the tips i wrote here by no means are things that you HAVE to do! these are just tips i use for myself, i kind of made up the bubble rule and i dont even know if im using the rule right haha so there theres that! i just like to use it so i know my bubbles have a place to go

examples of me using rule of thirds to separate elements in “Rachael and Penny”

i got the information a long time ago from a thread on penciljack called Storytelling 101, specifically this image
there is tons of information on rule of thirds available, i know eyecager has a post that dips into it ….

Making note of this. I really need to work on my word-bubble placement.

Yeah one of the big reasons I don’t do a lot of comics is because I get caught up in the technical aspects of it and realize I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I’M DOING ABORT ABORT and this is one of those things so cool thanks yay.

“After the Show” - ADVENTURE TIME comic #2 preview!

boompen:

Dudes, did you guys know the ADVENTURE TIME comic’s issue #2 comes out NEXT WEDNESDAY 3/14 OMIGOSH?! In it, Zac Gorman did a rad little strip featuring your favorite ladies, Marceline and Princess Bubblegum…but I’m giving you the animated version TODAY. FOR 0 DOLLARS. Just because I love you a whole lot.

Not only that, issue #2 features Lucy “Whatta Gal” Knisley writing and drawing our favorite vampire queen in her story “LaundroMarceline” AND more sick action from Ryan North+Braden Lamb+Shelli Paroline AND covers from art heartthrobs Emily Carroll and Becky Dreistadt!!!

AND THIS IS ONLY THE SECOND ISSUE! HOLY MACKEREL! Spread the word, loves, so we can keep making AT comics ALWAYS!

-Shannon, ADVENTURE TIME Editor, says “P.S. I Love You, but not in that Hilary Swank way”

Challenge Questions: Is this still a comic even though parts of it are animated? Why or why not? Does the limited animation add or detract from the narrative? How? Would your answer change if the animation were more elaborate or complex?
